Three Belly Whips
Three Belly whips are the least common type of whips made by Alex's Whip Shop. They come in sizes that range from 10 to 12 foot (~3 m to ~3.6 m) long and are usually built as bullwhips, but snake whips, and longer lengths of bullwhip, can be accommodated upon request (although I don't recommend a snake whip in three belly, it would be quite heavy). The Explorer line has a three belly variant, but its not exclusive, Alex has made these in various patterns. The Explorers have the prerequisite 8 inch (~20 cm) spike handle, but others have been made with 10 inch (~25 cm) handles.
Alex makes all three belly whips with a traditional Fall hitch, usually 4-point, over a full length core (that is, at least one core strand goes all the way to and through the Fall hitch). These whips have a lot of mass so a fine/skinny finish to the thong is not recommended. Being constructed with three bellies, these whips weigh in from ~1.5 lbs (~0.7 kg) to just under 2 lbs (~0.9 kg). Transferring that much energy through the end of the braiding can cause damage if there is not enough mass at the tip to handle it. The Fall is not tapered -- again so there is enough mass to handle the energy transfer. Also, the cracker/poppers for these large whips are made with Kevlar thread because crackers made with other materials have literally exploded their knots off the end! These whips are intense.
Because these whips weigh so much, they are very easy to crack, once they get moving. Their extra length and mass means these are not 'fast' whips. Vollies or any fast acting cracks are not recommended with these large whips. But, for traditional Cattlemans/Circus cracks, Overhead cracks, Flicks, and similar, these are AWESOME.
